Location and history
Our commercial nursery is located in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, a town close to Rotterdam. The nursery was started at this location in 1975 by the father of the current owners, Jacco and Wouter de Ruiter. Having previously produced vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes), orchids (Cymbidium ) and houseplants (Ficus, Spathiphyllum), our most important products at this time are Passiflora and Rhipsalis.
The size of the operation
We started with 12,000 m² in 1975. In 1985, we expanded the nursery to 16,000 m² and then again in 2005 to 20,000 m². This facility can produce 45,000 Passiflora pot plants and 500,000 Rhipsalis pot plants in various pot sizes every year.
Objective
Our objective is to supply products of consistently high quality that also eliminate problems and minimise culls for wholesalers and retailers. Consumers should enjoy these products so much that they will want to obtain products from our nursery again.
Sales
We do not sell directly to private individuals. All of our products are sold through auctions, export companies, cash & carries, garden centres and retailers. For more information contact Jacco de Ruiter, at tel.+31(0)180632163.
Identifying our products
Our products can be identified by labels with the PP logo standing for Passie Plant. If these products are not available at your garden centre, wholesale company or flower shop, please ask for them! If you don’t have access to plants with a PP label, you’re missing an opportunity to buy quality products!
